SC/GA Lowcountry Chapter of PCMA

Chapter History and Overview

In 2009, Jill Cox, Assistant to the GM at Moss Creek invited numerous local area clubs to a membership networking luncheon at Moss Creek Club. From this delightful and informative gathering, an area club networking group was born.

A contact list and email distribution was formed enabling Lowcountry area clubs within a 50 mile radius to pose questions to their peers and share information on comparable data, marketing and communications ideas, membership drives, policies, programming, and more! The networking groups grew as other clubs heard about it or were referred. Additional, albeit sporadic networking meetings were arranged, always concluding with promises to meet more often and regularly.
Energized after returning from the Chicago 2011 PCMA Conference, Sea Pines Country Club MD Karen Fleming contacted two of her idols in the business, MDs Silvia Lalinde, Dataw Island Club, and Vicki Burris, South Carolina Yacht Club, to discuss forming a local chapter. Aware that Ford Plantation Director of Communications and Membership, Shannon GaNun and Long Cove Director of Communications, Parker Harrington had also demonstrated interest; they were quickly incorporated into the course of action. A local chapter was the perfect path to the more structured approach sought by their networking group and brimmed with the possibility of luring seminars and perhaps even the national conference closer to the area!

Moving quickly, they set up a conference call with Hannah Petersen of PCMA. In one phone call, they designated their officers and learned what needed to be done. Another eating meeting between the five fleshed out their mission - to provide education for the many club professionals in their multi club area and share membership marketing and communications successes (and failures). The officers began inquiring among their networking group as to interest in their mission and, using a local CMAA chapter directory, branched out to other clubs within a broader geographic boundary. The response was encouraging.
Then there began a formulation of ideas for meetings and a timeline to get started. After dozens of emails and rejected suggestions, a date was set, and they agreed upon a format for their first meeting. MD Lindsey Cooler volunteered to host the luncheon meeting at Callawassie Island Club. Hence the dawn of the SC/GA Lowcountry Chapter of PCMA…
